Wickness Models provides a bespoke dcc conversion service for N and OO gauge locomotives. The portfolio of manufacturers covered is extensive including UK, European and American, and can be seen by visiting the Wickness youtube channel . The channel has over a hundred test runs of recent conversions with commentary on the difficulties involved. We have an association with several decoder manufacturers including Lenz, Digitrax, CT Elektronik and Hornby and can therefore provide many decoders at prices lower than current retail. All conversions are done only after discussion on your specific requirements. Please contact us for a discussion on the pros and cons of any conversion before committing to any work. We are happy to help.If you decide to go ahead with any conversion you will not be asked to make payment untill your loco or locos have been safely returned and tested. After that you can make payment by cheque, debit-credit card or paypal.

Below is a guide on fitting cost for any given chassis type of loco you may wish to have converted with brief description on the difficulties involved. Please scroll down this page to find the chassis type of your model and the likely cost of conversion to dcc. The quoted price includes all additional parts required but does not include the decoder. I can recommend a suitable decoder which can be supplied in almost every case at a price better than current retail.
Hornby Tender Drive Conversion (OO Gauge)
£13.50 This is a straightforward conversion involving removal of shell and re-wiring, decoders applicable range from £12 to £35, depending on your requirements
Hornby 0-4-0 Conversion (OO Gauge)
£13.50 This is a straightforward conversion involving re-wiring and soldering, on some of the early versions of this chassis type the motor needs to be removed and inverted in order to get a good fit. Decoders applicable range from £12 to £35, depending on your requirements
Hornby Loco Drive Conversion (OO Gauge)

£10.00. This is a straightforward conversion involving removal of shell and substituting the dc blanking plate with a six pin decoder, decoders applicable range from £12 to £35, depending on your requirements
Graham Farish Diesel Poole Chassis Type 1 Conversion (Digi Hat Required) (N Gauge)
£25.50 This conversion requires the insertion of a digi-hat plastic brush holder in the lower motor terminal housing to first isolate the motor from the live chassis followed by modification of the upper contact plates to create new terminals for the decoder wiring. Decoders applicable range from £19.50 to £35.00 depending on your requirements
Graham Farish Diesel Poole Chassis Type 2 Conversion(Digi Hat Required) (N Gauge)
£35.00 This conversion requires the insertion of 2 digi-hat plastic brush holders in both the lower and upper motor terminal housing to first isolate the motor from the live chassis. It is possible to do this one by cutting away some of the pickup wipers on the underside which avoids the need for the digi-hats but the wipers also act as suspension and losing this original function can result in poor performance on uneven tracks. Decoders applicable range from £19.50 to £35.00 depending on your requirements
Graham Farish Steam Poole Chassis Conversion(Digi Hat Required) (N Gauge)
£23.50 This conversion requires the insertion of 1 digi-hat plastic brush to isolate the lower motor terminal housing to first isolate the motor from the live chassis. Decoders applicable range from £19.50 to £35.00 depending on your requirements
Graham Farish Diesel Split-China Chassis Conversion (N Gauge)
£18.50 This conversion requires the stripping of the loco into its component parts and milling away of sections of each chassis halve contacting the motor terminals. Re-assembly then permits the fitting of the decoder. Decoders applicable range from £12.00 to £35.00 depending on available space between chassis and shell and your specific requirements
Graham Farish Diesel Split-China Chassis PCB Solder Tab Conversion (N Gauge)
£13.50 This conversion requires removal of the dc clips from the solder tabs and soldering in of the chip which is then located beneath the lighting circuit wiring. Decoders applicable range from £19.50 to £35.00 depending on available space between chassis and shell and your specific requirements
Hornby Diesel Non Standard Ringfield Motor Conversion (OO Gauge)
£17.50. This one is complicated by the chassis being connected directly to one motor terminal and this connection has to be separated. Once done it is straightford re-wiringand soldering with the decoder mounted above the motor. Decoders applicable range from £12.00 to £35.00 depending on your requirements
Dapol Class 66 Older Chassis DCC Conversion (N Gauge)
£42.00. This is possibly the most difficult conversion to do on popular dc n gauge models. It involves a complete re-wiring of the existing lighting circuits which is complicated by solder joints in very close proximity to the led's. A box of spare led's is an absolute necessity when tackling this one. It is further complicated by re-assembly of the chassis when isolating the lower motor terminal as plastic underframe for the chassis does not have sufficient space to slip the bogies through. It is an example of a loco which has been factory manufactured with no intention for dcc conversion. Decoders applicable range from £19.50 to £35.00 depending on your requirements
Hornby Diesel Standard Ringfield Motor Conversion (OO Gauge)
£13.50. Straightford re-wiring conversion with the decoder mounted above the motor. Decoders applicable range from £12.00 to £35.00 depending on your requirements
Bachmann Split Chassis Conversion (OO Gauge)
£20.00 This conversion requires the stripping of the loco into its component parts to isolate the motor terminals from each live chassis halve. In many cases it also requires cutting away a portion of chassis to locate the decoder as there is very limited space between chassis and shell. Re-assembly then permits the fitting of the decoder. Decoders applicable range from £12.00 to £35.00 depending on available space between chassis and shell and your specific requirements
Graham Farish Split Chassis Sound Conversion (N Gauge)
£35.00 This conversion requires the stripping of the loco into its component parts to isolate the motor terminals from each live chassis halve and location of a decoder and small speaker in the upper shell. It is not possible on all models due to limited space. Decoders applicable range from £35.00 to £100 depending on available space between chassis and shell and your specific requirements
Dapol Steam Chassis Conversion (N Gauge)
£20.00. Very limited space in this one, you can either solder direct to the decoder or cut very short wires, either way intricate soldering. Decoders applicable range from £19.50 to £35.00 depending on available space between chassis and shell and your specific requirements
Fleischmannl Steam Chassis Conversion (N Gauge)

Minitrix Steam Conversion (N Gauge)
£25.00 On this type of conversion the decoder is located in the tender so completely out of view. It does involve very carefull removal and modification to the tender pickup plates. A peculuarity of this chassis type is that it has 3 pickup wheels at one side in the loco and 2 at each side on the tender. This means that it has 5 pickup wheels on one side and only 2 in very close proximity to each other on the other side making clean tracks essential to good running. Decoders applicable range from £19.50 to £35.00 depending on available space between chassis and shell and your specific requirements
Atlas Deisel Conversion (N Gauge)
£20.00 Bit of work involved in isolating the motor from the chassis but very similar to a Graham Farish split chassis deisel. Very effective on dcc when complete. Decoders applicable range from £19.50 to £35.00 depending on your specific requirements
Bachmann Spectrum Deisel Conversion (N Gauge)
£25.00 Slightly odd split chassis configuration requiring some individual pickup modification. Very effective on dcc when complete. Decoders applicable range from £28.00 to £35.00 depending on your specific requirements
Bachmann Spectrum Deisel With Light Function Conversion (N Gauge)
£35.00 Very similar to a Dapol Class 66 conversion requiring modification of the dc lighting circuits but without the close proximity soldering to the leds. Very effective on dcc when complete. Decoders applicable range from £28.00 to £35.00 depending on your specific requirements
Bachmann DMU Working Lights Conversion (OO Gauge)
£30.00 Price is approximate on this one. The led units require to be stripped and modified to run on dcc. The price indicated here is for a two car unit requiring 2 decoders but the 3 car versions will require an additional drive conversion and this would add around £10 to the price. Very effective on dcc when complete, highly recommended. Decoders applicable range from £12.00 to £35.00 depending on your specific requirements
Heljan Deisel DCC Ready Conversion (OO Gauge)
£13.50 This conversion should be straightforward by removing of the shell and simply plugging in an 8 pin decoder. The difficulty however is in removal and replacement of the shell on these models which can be very tim consuming.
